Who We Are

At Encore Fire Protection, we are proud to be the east coast's largest full-service fire protection company, serving over 90,000 customers from Maine to Louisiana. With a team of over 2,200 dedicated employees, we provide innovative, customized fire suppression, fire sprinkler, and fire alarm solutions that protect lives and properties every day.

Our goal is to deliver superior experience to those who trust us to safeguard what matters most. We are passionate about continuous growth, innovation, and maintaining a culture that thrives on success and commitment to safety. Our mission? To be the best fire protection company the industry has ever seen.

The Opportunity

Special hazards work is where fire protection stops being “one size fits all” and becomes a true design challenge. This role is for someone who likes high-stakes environments, complex systems, and getting the details right, because the environments you are designing do not leave room for guesswork.

As a Special Hazards Fire Protection Designer at Encore, you will design specialized suppression systems for high-risk settings like data centers, industrial facilities, power plants, and aircraft hangars. You will partner closely with project teams to produce designs that are code-compliant, technically sound, and practical to install, while helping Encore deliver the kind of service quality that keeps customers safe and confident.

Key Responsibilities

You will be the person who turns risk, code, and engineering reality into a design a team can build from. Your work will include:

  • Design and layout special hazards fire suppression systems, including but not limited to clean agent systems (for example FM-200, Novec 1230), CO₂ systems, foam suppression systems, water mist systems, and explosion suppression or detection systems.

  • Prepare detailed CAD drawings and system schematics.

  • Perform hydraulic calculations and flow analysis to verify system performance.

  • Ensure design compliance with NFPA codes (for example NFPA 2001, 12, 750), local requirements, and client specifications.

  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate fire protection systems into building plans.

  • Review submittals and technical specifications for accuracy and completeness.

  • Assist in developing bills of materials and scope documentation for estimating and procurement.

  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and inspection phases.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Three to five years of experience designing fire protection systems, with a focus on special hazards

  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD or another CAD platform and Revit; if you have used a different design tool and are comfortable learning new software, we can help you ramp up on AutoCAD

  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72, IBC, and relevant local fire codes, or a strong willingness to learn and apply these standards

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as Word and Excel, and the ability to learn new software tools as needed

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at the same time

  • Solid problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and quality from start to finish

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Self-motivated, punctual, and reliable, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits and meetings

What Will Make You Stand Out?

  • You have a bachelor's degree or associate degree in Engineering, Fire Protection, Mechanical Design, or related field.

  • You have a NICET Level II (or higher) in Special Hazards Systems or Fire Protection Engineering Technology.

  • You have experience designing for complex, high-risk environments (for example data centers, industrial, power generation, hangars).

  • You have experience coordinating directly with authorities having jurisdiction on fire alarm designs and submittals.
