Position Summary

The Fire Alarm System Estimator is responsible for evaluating project requirements, interpreting construction documents, and developing accurate cost estimates for fire alarm and life‑safety system installations. This role works closely with project managers, sales teams, engineers, and clients to deliver competitive proposals that meet code requirements, technical specifications, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Proposal Development

  • Review and interpret architectural drawings, electrical plans, specifications, and addenda to determine system scope and requirements.
  • Develop detailed material lists and labor estimates for fire alarm and life-safety system installations.
  • Prepare complete bid proposals, including pricing, clarifications, exclusions, and value‑engineering options.
  • Identify project risk factors and recommend cost‑effective solutions.

Technical & Code Knowledge

  • Ensure all estimates comply with applicable fire codes, including NFPA, local AHJ requirements, and building regulations.
  • Select proper fire alarm equipment, devices, and system architecture based on project needs and manufacturer guidelines.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers to obtain accurate material pricing and lead times.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams during project handoff to confirm scope and estimate accuracy.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and internal departments to clarify project needs and resolve questions.

Documentation & Administration

  • Maintain a database of historical project costs, labor units, and pricing trends.
  • Track bid status, due dates, and follow‑up requirements.
  • Assist in developing estimating templates, standards, and process improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in fire alarm, low‑voltage, or electrical system estimating (typically 2–5+ years).
  • Strong understanding of fire alarm systems, components, and installation practices.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 72 and relevant local building/fire codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NICET Level II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Experience with major fire alarm manufacturers (e.g., Notifier, Siemens, Edwards, Honeywell (preferred), Simplex).
  • Background in the low‑voltage, electrical, life‑safety, or construction industries.
  • Experience working with contractors, AHJs, engineers, and integrators.

Compensation

Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000 annually, depending on experience.
