Description

We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Professional Engineer (PE) to lead the design, analysis, and implementation of fire protection and life safety systems across a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. This role provides technical leadership, ensures code compliance, and supports clients in achieving safe, resilient, and cost-effective solutions.


Key Responsibilities

Fire Protection System Engineering

  • Design and develop fire suppression, detection, and alarm systems (e.g., wet/dry sprinkler systems, clean agent systems, fire pumps, mass notification).
  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports.

Code Compliance & Life Safety

  • Interpret and apply relevant codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, ICC, IBC, IFC, FM Global).
  • Conduct building code and life safety analyses, including egress, occupancy classification, and hazard assessments.
  • Collaborate with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) to secure approvals.

Project Management & Collaboration

  • Lead fire protection portions of multi-disciplinary engineering projects
  • Coordinate with architects, mechanical/electrical engineers, contractors, and clients.
  • Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and conduct site visits.

Quality Assurance & Technical Leadership

  • Oversee and mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Ensure design accuracy, constructability, and adherence to company standards.
  • Perform peer reviews and support internal process improvements.
Requirements

  Bachelor’s  degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

  • 5–10+ years of experience in fire protection engineering design.
  • Proficiency with fire protection software (HydraCALC, AutoSPRINK, PyroSim, Revit, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, IBC/IFC, and local fire codes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • NICET Level III/IV in relevant fire protection disciplines.
  • Experience with performance-based design or fire modeling.
  • Familiarity with clean agent, water mist, and special hazard systems.
  • Experience in consulting engineering or client-facing project roles.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

· Work environment is primarily indoors at firms’ facility, with approximately 10% of time spent indoors/outdoors at project or construction sites where hard-hat and other safety gear is often required. (PPE is provided by firm.)

· While performing field work associated with this position employee will be required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl and carry and/or climb ladders of varying heights. The employee may lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
