Essential Duties:

  • Knowledge of NFPA Standards
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and architectural drawings
  • Organized self-starter with excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated "team player" with a "can do" attitude and be willing to travel to local job site locations
  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine layout requirements.
  • Install clamps, brackets and hangers to support piping system and sprinkler and fire protection equipment, using hand and power tools
  • Connect piping system to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment
  • Test system for leaks using air or liquid pressure equipment
  • Ability to train and direct the day to day work of a Helper
  • Ability to climb ladders, operate high lift equipment, and carry and move material
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for the work performed
  • Ability to consistently work from heights
  • Installs or repairs fire & life safety or other types of piping and systems.
  • Work involves most of the following:
  • Laying out work
  • Measuring to locate position of pipe from drawings or other written specifications
  • Cutting various sizes of pipe to correct lengths
  • Pipe-cutting tools and machines
  • Threading and grooving of pipe
  • Bending pipe by hand-driven or power-driven machines
  • Assembling pipe with couplings and fastening pipe to hangers
  • Making standard shop computations relating to pressures, flow and size of pipe required
  • Performing standard tests to determine whether finished pipes meet specifications
  • Responsible to work safely and wear personal protective equipment and special equipment to protect themselves and others from injury.
  • Ability to interact and communicate in a professional and positive manner with others
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Other duties as assigned
