Job Title: General Maintenance/Fire Alarm Technician

Primary Purpose:
Perform journey level skilled technical trades work to install, maintain, repair, inspect, and troubleshoot fire alarm systems for the entire district including fire alarms, fire suppression, and smoke detection systems.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED
NICET or ESA Fire Certification
Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) training courses
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of safety hazard and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe
work environment for self and others.
Knowledge of electrical equipment, components, instruments, and burglar and fire alarm systems including installation, testing uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of electrical theory, circuits, components, and material properties (excluding computers).
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in fire alarm or fire detection systems.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
1. Install, program, configure, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, perform diagnostics, and repair of fire alarms systems and fire suppression systems. 
2. Perform basic programming for electrical components of fire alarm systems.
3. Perform fire alarm system take offs and layout. 
4. Maintain and rewire pressure and flow switches.
5. Respond to electrical service or trouble calls, troubleshoots various problems/issues, and provides problem resolution.
6. Prepares working sketches and works from blueprints, schematics, and written or verbal instructions.
7. Prioritizes daily work orders and repairs.
8. Estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs.
9. Maintains records and prepares daily activity reports and follow applicable building codes.
10. Assists in the maintenance and repair work in a variety of skilled trades areas.
11. By position, may be required to be on-call to address emergent needs.
12. By position, responds to after hours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Safety
14. Ensure compliance with NFPA, including performing annual device testing for fire alarm systems and complete and maintain all records required by NFPA-72.
15. Assist in testing of fire systems including fire sprinkler valves and smoke control systems.
16. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
17. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
18. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure equipment is in safe operating condition.
19. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around gas lines; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
